Sofia Gubaidulina: A World Premiere CD release in Trondheim on 8th October!

Sofia Gubaidulina’s distinguished career and her 80th anniversary on 24th October  will be  celebrated with the international release of  a 
world première recording (Naxos 8.572772) of her newest work, Fachwerk (2009/2011). The event will take place on Saturday 8th October at 6:00 p.m. in Nidarosdomen,the  medieval cathedral in Trondheim,Norway, in the presence of the composer and in conjunction with the Norwegian concert premiere of Fachwerk, performed by Geir Draugsvoll (draugsvoll.dk) and recording partner  Trondheim Symphony Orchestra Strings (tso.no) conducted by Øyvind Gimse.
 
Recorded in April 2011 at Kolstad Church,Trondheim,by its acclaimed dedicatee Geir Draugsvoll (bayan) and in the presence of the composer, this dramatic but also magical work is inspired by Gubaidulinas fascination with architectural styles of timber framing. The bayan,a distinctively Russian variant of the accordion is an essential feature of this piece,scored for solo bayan,string orchestra & percussion. Upon her own  wish the recording of  Fachwerk has been paired with the subtle poetry and texture of  Silenzio,one of her earlier works.
