Rolf Lislevand

Continuing a line of striking albums for Naïve, such as Murcia's Codex, 'Alfabeto', or Vivaldi's music for mandolin and lute, Rolf Lislevand now offers a recording that connects music from the past and sheds light from the present. From a very specific repertoire, works for guitar and basso ostinato in the Italian 17th century, Lislevand creates a bewitching and modern musical universe, based on music and improvisations inspired by Carbonchi, Corbetta, Granata, Pellegrini or traditional music.

Carl Petersson
Grieg / Evju - Piano Concerto

Edvard Grieg first met Percy Grainger in London in 1906 and the two became good friends, Grieg inviting the 'Young Apollo' to spend the summer of 1907 with him at Troldhaugen where they revised the famous Piano Concerto in A minor in preparation for a European tour later that year. Their alterations, enhancing dynamic clarity, resulted in the last edition "sanctioned by Grieg himself", as Grieg died a few months later. Edvard Grieg had plans for a second piano concerto and wrote several piano sketches for a concerto in B-minor in 1883. He never completed it, but Norwegian composer Helge Evju has taken up the challenge to compose a work based on the incomplete concerto fragments, creating a romantic and beautiful companion concerto, faithful to Grieg's musical style and flair.

Carl Nielsen
Concertos - Gilbert, Alan

"I think in terms of the instruments themselves - I sort of creep into their souls," said Carl Nielsen (1865-1931). His three solo concertos for violin, flute, and clarinet are highly characteristic and expressive works that show how Nielsen developed as a composer, increasingly distancing himself from the classical conventions. This new recording by the New York Philharmonic and Alan Gilbert concludes the acclaimed Nielsen Project with Nikolaj Znaider, Robert Langevin, and Anthony McGill as soloists in vivid live performances from Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center.

Anthony Strong
On a Clear Day

Sharply-dressed Brit jazz songster Anthony Strong made a good impression with his debut album Stepping Out, and is back with a brassy big band beast of a new record in the shape of On a Clear Day. As Anthony says..."In mid-2013, whilst touring my last record, I started compiling a list of songs that would form the basis of my new record. I'd played a handful of big band shows over the last year, and the response was always staggering; It was settled, my next album would be for big band. I settled on a mix of standards, covers and some originals.
